Why custom

When the catalog part does not fit

Most programs do not fit an off-the-shelf battery or vehicle. The space claim is fixed, the mass budget is tight, the loads are specific and the terrain is hard — and sometimes no platform on the market fits the mission at all.

We design to the boundary you give us: a pack packaged into the space you already have, a power system matched to the equipment you have to run, or a clean-sheet vehicle built around the mission — rather than asking you to work around a catalog part.

What we develop

Two kinds of program, one team

Power systems and vehicles are designed by the same engineers, so a program can start with one and grow into the other.

01

Battery and power export systems

High-voltage packs and power export engineered to your loads, voltage, envelope and environment — mounted to a platform, dismountable, or standing alone.

  • Vehicle-mounted packs for silent onboard export
  • Dismountable and portable packs
  • Custom voltage, capacity and export configurations
  • Integration into fielded platforms without structural rework
  • Connectors, communications and controls matched to your systems
  • Sealing, cooling, shock and vibration to the environment

02

Complete vehicles

A clean-sheet vehicle when the mission does not fit an existing platform — battery, drivetrain, chassis and body, designed as one system.

  • Battery and high-voltage architecture sized to the duty cycle
  • Electric drivetrain — the architecture proven in the Electric Vehicle Kit, resized
  • Chassis and suspension for the payload and the terrain
  • Body and structure around the crew and mission equipment
  • Vehicle electronics, wiring and controls
  • Prototype through low-rate initial production

How we work

From requirement to production

One team takes the program from the first conversation to repeatable production, so nothing is lost between design and build.

  1. 01

    Define

Mission, loads, duty cycle, space claim, mass budget and environment. If the requirement is still forming, we help you write it.

  2. 02

    Design

Cells, power electronics, drivetrain, chassis, body and controls — designed in-house, as one system.

  3. 03

    Prototype

Built in our Pittsburgh shop and iterated on real hardware, not only in simulation.

  4. 04

    Validate

Tested on the bench and on the vehicle, in the conditions it has to survive.

  5. 05

    Produce

Prototype through low-rate initial production, built in Pittsburgh.

Example builds

Systems we have already built

These are here because they are real hardware, not because they are the only answer. Every program is redesigned around its own platform and requirement.

01

Vehicle-mounted export pack

Added to a fielded light tactical vehicle without changing its engine or drivetrain, for silent power export. Demonstrated on MRZR-class vehicles.

Example build

Pack
470 V / 10 kWh
Added mass
≈120 lb
Export
24 / 48 / 120 / 240 V
Engine

02

Power Export Kit

A modular, drop-in power system with military DC and AC interfaces, now sold as a product.

Example build

Pack
48 V / 15 kWh
AC
12 kW continuous
DC
14 kW at 28 V
Ingress
IP54
See the Power Export Kit

03

Electric Vehicle Kit drivetrain

The motor, inverter and modular high-voltage pack behind the Electric Vehicle Kit, sized per vehicle and paired with an optional range extender.

Example build

System
470 V
Peak power
165 hp
Capacity
10–20 kWh
Export
24 / 48 / 120 / 240 V

Track record

Already in front of the end user

Special operations demonstrations

SPM has demonstrated vehicle-integrated silent power export to special operations forces on MRZR-class light tactical vehicles.

Tactical vehicle industry engagement

Presented alongside the defense mobility community, including TEVCON, with running prototype hardware rather than renderings.

Backed for dual-use

Venture-backed specifically to accelerate dual-use military and civilian electric off-road powertrains.
