Government & Defense

Silent power
at the point of need

SPM designs and manufactures vehicle-mounted and modular expeditionary battery packs, electric drivetrains, and complete ground-up vehicles — built to your requirements and packaged into the space your platform already has.

System

Pack
10–20 kWh
Export

Added mass

One system SPM builds today — every program is sized to its own requirement

The problem

Every system on the vehicle needs power. Getting it there is the hard part.

Radios, sensors, night vision, counter-UAS and electronic warfare payloads all draw continuous power. Today that means idling an engine or hauling a generator — an acoustic and thermal signature that can be heard and seen, and a fuel line that has to be resupplied and defended.

SPM removes both. We build high-voltage battery systems that mount to the vehicle you already operate and export clean power silently, at the voltages your equipment expects — with no engine running.

Capabilities

What we design and build

SPM covers the full range, from a battery pack integrated into an existing fleet vehicle to a clean-sheet vehicle designed around a mission profile.

01

Vehicle-mounted and modular expeditionary power

High-voltage packs that mount to the platform for onboard export, or dismount and move with the team as a standalone expeditionary power source. One system, both roles — powering a command post, a sensor mast, or a maintenance point without a generator.

  • Silent export at 24, 48, 120 and 240 V
  • Dismountable and man-portable pack configurations
  • Charge from vehicle, shore power, or generator
  • No engine idle, no acoustic or thermal signature

02

Engineered to your requirements and your existing envelope

We design to the boundary you give us. Give us the space claim, mass budget, mounting interfaces and duty cycle, and we package the pack and drivetrain into it — rather than asking you to modify the vehicle to fit a catalogue part.

  • Design to a defined space claim and mass budget
  • Integration into fielded platforms without structural rework
  • Custom voltage, capacity and export configurations
  • Interfaces matched to existing vehicle systems

03

Electric powertrain conversion

Replace the combustion drivetrain in a platform you already operate. Motor, inverter, battery, thermal management, controls and harness — designed, built and integrated as one system.

04

Ground-up vehicle design

Clean-sheet chassis and suspension through to drivetrain, high-voltage architecture and vehicle electronics. When the mission does not fit an existing platform, we design the platform.

Configurations

Three ways in

Most programs start at the lowest-risk entry point and expand. These are approaches, not products — the figures shown are from systems we have built, and every one is redesigned around your platform, your envelope and your requirement.

01

Augmented

Keep the vehicle exactly as it is — engine, drivetrain, range and logistics tail unchanged — and add a high-voltage pack for silent power export.

The lowest-risk way to add exportable power to a fielded fleet. No change to the powertrain, no retraining on how the vehicle drives, no new fuel requirement. Demonstrated on Polaris MRZR-class light tactical vehicles; pack capacity and export profile are set by how long you need to run and what you need to run.

02

Full electric conversion

Replace the combustion drivetrain in an existing platform with a complete SPM high-voltage electric powertrain.

Near-silent movement, instant torque, drastically reduced maintenance, and the full pack available for export when parked. Built on the architecture proven in SPM commercial kits, then resized — voltage, capacity and power — to the platform and duty cycle you specify.

03

Ground-up vehicle

A clean-sheet vehicle: chassis, suspension, drivetrain, high-voltage architecture and electronics, designed around the mission.

When the requirement does not map to an existing platform, SPM designs and builds the whole vehicle. Prototype through low-rate production, engineered and manufactured in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Reference system

One of many drivetrain packages we build

The figures below describe one SPM high-voltage powertrain and pack — a system in production today on the commercial side of the business. They are here because they are real, measured numbers from hardware that exists and gets driven, rather than a datasheet for something notional.

They are not a specification we ask you to design around. Voltage, capacity, power, export profile, envelope and environmental rating are all set per program. If your requirement is already defined, we build to it. If it is still forming, we will help you define it.

Set per program

System voltage
Driven by platform loads, the export requirement, and what your existing electrical architecture expects.
Pack capacity
Sized to duty cycle and silent-watch duration — how long you need to run, drawing what, before recharge.
Power and torque
Matched to vehicle mass, terrain and the performance the mission actually needs.
Export profile
Voltages and continuous power set by the equipment you have to run off the vehicle.
Envelope and mass
Packaged into the space claim you have available, traded against capacity and payload.
Environmental
Sealing, thermal management, shock and vibration specified to your operating environment.

Requirement still forming?

Bring the mission profile rather than a spec sheet. We will work through the trades with you — capacity against mass, power against envelope, export against runtime — and tell you what we think is right before anyone writes a requirement document.

Engineering & manufacturing

Designed, built and tested in Pittsburgh

SPM is a vertically integrated engineering shop. Packs, drivetrains, mounting structure and vehicle electronics are designed in-house, prototyped in-house, and built in-house — which is why we can commit to a custom envelope instead of quoting around a catalogue part.

The team is led by engineers out of high-volume EV production, and the hardware is validated on vehicles that are driven hard, not only on a bench.

In-house design
Mechanical, electrical, firmware and controls under one roof.
Prototype to production
Rapid iteration on real hardware, then repeatable low-rate build.
Domestic manufacturing
Designed and built in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Validated on vehicle
Tested in the environment the hardware has to survive.

Working with SPM

How to put us on contract

SPM is set up to work with government customers directly and through primes. If you need something below that is not yet listed, ask — it may already be in place.

Direct award & OTAs

Prototype and production work under other transaction authority, SBIR/STTR, and direct procurement.

Subcontract to a prime

Pack, drivetrain and integration work as a subsystem supplier on a larger vehicle program.

Evaluation units

Hardware for test and evaluation ahead of a program of record decision.
